Welcome to the LAKE MONROE ROADKILLER PAGE!
Lake Monroe Roadkillers
You’ve probably heard of us, or maybe you have seen us at a race – why not join us for a training run! We are a very competitive running group, with most of us training at a 6 minute to an 8 ½ minute pace, and we’re always looking for fresh faces! If you have any questions please call April (she’s the responsible one) at 407-687-9373 or email her at arunner5971@bellsouth.net.
Here’s our typical schedule, however you’ll want to confirm before you come for the first time;
- Tuesdays. We meet at 6:45 pm behind Panera Bread in Heathrow (look for the trail head near the employee parking in back). You can run up to 8 miles.
- Thursdays. We meet at 6:45 pm at the park on the corner of Lake Mary Blvd and Rinehart Road You can run a 6 ½ mile loop or 8 miles.
Thursdays alternative run. We meet in Deland off of 17/92 next to the sushi restaurant, Wasabi. The hilly neighborhood streets offer 6 and 9 mile courses.
- Saturdays or Sundays. ( we may change days accordingto our race schedules) We meet at 7am in the winter and 6am the rest of the year. We meet at the park on the corner of Lake Mary Blvd and Rinehart Road. The standard course is a 12 mile long run, but many of our runners add miles when training for a marathon. There are also numerous opportunities to do less than 12 along the way, if you need to cut it short. The course has many water stops along the way.

Roadkillers History
The RoadKillers were founded in the mid 1980's by some guys who wanted to run a marathon. Our "Spiritual Leader" (note: not necessarily the fastest runner) is known as Swingbelly.
The Roadkillers are comprised of runners from various backgrounds of all shapes, sizes, and speeds. We usually pick one marathon a year, train together and travel there as a group. Some of the marathons include New York, Chicago, Marine Corps, WineGlass, Jacksonville, the Canadian International, Mardi Gras and Kiawah Island. With the goal of most members is to qualify for Boston.
Several of our marathon training runs are done around Lake Monroe. We also do some of our long runs in Winter Park and Clermont (Butt Kicking Hill Run).
Each year we have a private club race called "The Run for the Hill of it". Handicaps are calculated for a stagger start. The winner of the race names the president for the next year and also receives the honor of keeping the coveted Piston Trophy in their home for a year.
We are a running club from Central Florida. Our name is derived from the fact that many of our marathon training runs are done on a 25 mile course which loops around Lake Monroe in Deltona, Fl
It's not an easy course, but it is unique. If you like counting alligators, running with a fun crowd, and eating really good bagels afterward, you'll like running "The Lake".
Not all of our members train for Marathons. We also participate as a group in area races. Our training consists of speed work, hill training and long runs
